Internet scams have been a thing since the internet became a thing. It used to be Nigerian royalty trying to offload their fortune to unsuspecting email recipients.
Then it was people trying to convince others to buy/send them gift cards.
The latest trend? Pretending to be employers trying to hire remote workers. It starts with an email or text. Then an offer for a remote data entry project and a high hourly rate. It’s all a ruse for getting personal information and/or convincing desperate job seekers to send money in order to get the job.
Scams like this are clogging all of our email boxes and are now coming via text. For the better part of two years, we’ve been dealing with people impersonating Hirewell and contacting job seekers using our name as part of their scams.
I shared this on LinkedIn a few days ago, but wanted to reiterate the message.

PSA - Hirewell will not text you about remote roles and ask you to connect with us via WhatsApp.
All of our recruiters are on Linkedin. They are all on our website. They are very easy to find. And they want to talk to you on the phone. Or over Zoom. Or meet for coffee.
If you get a poorly written message offering you remote jobs and asking to discuss on WhatsApp - I assure you it isn't us.
It is scary out there folks. I know it is hard if you are looking for a job right now. Anyone texting you out of the blue (no matter where they say they work) is probably trying to scam you...
Stay safe and if the offer seems too good to be true? It probably is.
