We’ve spent way too much time talking about the economy around here. And hiring trends. And the federal reserve. And Inflation. And rising interest rates. And the endless headlines about layoffs.

It is clear that Fed is targeting the “resilient” job market as it looks to stamp out inflation. We all know that the pace of hiring from Q1/Q2 was not sustainable.  Money was free (practically) and companies were adding headcount at all costs. Add in a shortage of workers in the job market and it is understandable that salaries spiked. But attempting to cut demand is not the answer. Especially when demand is hard to measure.

My colleague James Hornick wrote an article earlier this week about this.  Specifically how the Fed is now using job postings as a measure for how hot the economy is.

Why does this matter? Because job postings isn’t a particularly accurate metric. If you are in recruiting, you know that. Anyone can post a job. That doesn’t mean you are actually planning on hiring someone for that.

Disagree?  

How about now? Sure, FTX is an extreme example. But there are a lot of reasons this is a BS metric. Read James’s article for a bunch of them!
