Fake recruiters trying to steal people’s identities. I can’t believe it is a thing.  Unfortunately, internet scams keep getting more intricate. I’m old enough to remember when it was just royalty from African countries looking to offload some money.

Now? We get 10+ emails per week from candidates asking if the Hirewell recruiter contacting them via Facebook messenger or Zendesk emails is real. At first, we sort of chuckled. It was flattering that someone, somewhere was trying to impersonate us. Not anymore. We’ve had to spend thousands of dollars to shut down multiple, fake Hirewell domains. No bueno.

Rant over. But it is a scary world out there. Matt Mulcahy and Kierra Kohlbeck filmed a video with tips on how to spot fake recruiters and/or phony job postings. Check it out!

Cracking the Career Code, Ep 8 "Unveiling Fake Recruiters and Job Postings"

In this episode, Matt and Kierra discuss the warning signs that could indicate a fake recruiter or job posting. They emphasize the common saying, “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.” The hosts aim to equip job seekers with the necessary tools to identify potential scams. They recommend watching the video to gain insight into the red flags to watch out for during a job search.

Ep 70

They say the best things in life are free. But don’t they also say you get what you pay for?

When the job market gets tough, job seekers are thirsty for whatever edge will help them land their next gig. The free advice from life coaches (and frankly anyone who’s ever looked for a job before) comes out of the woodwork.

But let’s call a spade a spade: some of the most common tips are objectively bad. They’ve just been repeated over and over again until they sound plausible.

Not on our watch. Jeff Smith and James Hornick call out some of the most common tips absolutely no one should listen to in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 70 "Bad Job Seeking Advice, Exposed"

Will Bots Replace Recruiters? - Matt Massucci

Sorry for the clickbait headline. Of course they won’t. But I felt like I needed to chime in ChatGPT, generative AI, and how it will affect all of us in talent acquisition.

Everywhere you look, there is another news story about ChatGPT and Generative AI. While VC funding is way down - anyone that is writing checks, is investing it in Generative AI.

All of our inboxes are flooded with AI "solutions" that will solve all of our problems. It is almost like everyone that was on the crypto bandwagon pivoted to AI.

There's no doubt AI will shape all aspects of business. It will absolutely impact recruiting and talent acquisition. But let's temper things a bit.

I wrote an article that got published on Nasdaq.com. Check it out.
