Hello! I’m stealing a page from my colleague James Hornick’s content playbook. He writes a lot. Occasionally he hits it out of the park and I repurpose it.

Why does this one resonate? Well, I’ve been in recruiting for a long time. Hiring (a lot of it) often slows down over the holidays. Most Decembers, I get an uneasy feeling about what the next year is going to look like. Except last year. 2021 boomed straight through Q2 2022.

This year’s no different. Well, I guess it is different. The talk of layoffs and a recession has been a pretty constant drum beat. None of us knows what’s in store for us in 2023. So now, more than ever, there’s a lot of “Let’s hold off until January.”

It is understandable. But what does that mean? Should we all take the rest of the year off? Sure, that sounds great. And if you have that option - I don't blame you. But for the rest of us, there’s an opportunity to knock out a bunch of projects. Read James’s article to learn more!

8 things to do during a December slowdown

The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 56 "Big Tech’s Layoff Meltdown, Explained"

When things go south in the business world, it always feels like the employees are the ones to take the brunt of it.

How are so many companies laying off when unemployment is only 3.7%?

And why are all the biggest names in tech, who had (seemingly) unlimited money a year ago, leading the charge?

Most importantly: what can we learn from this going forward?

Jeff Smith and James Hornick put on their economist hats in Episode 56 of The 10 Minute Talent Rant, "Big Tech’s Layoff Meltdown, Explained."

In this week's episode, Dan and Louie have their first guest, Joel Lalgee, to discuss the topic of Self Branding in a business environment. Joel being one of the most influential "self-branders" in the recruiting space, the guys felt bringing him on to talk about "how to grow your brand" would be beneficial to viewers looking to take their first steps to stardom. They segway the topic by bringing up NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals in high school and college sports athletes.
